Dallas Texas Turkey Trot – All You Need To Know

We all know, no Dallas Thanksgiving is complete without the Dallas Turkey Trot. The way it connects the people and fills the air with joy, love and hope is simply incomparable.
Howdy y’all!! It’s me again, (hope you are happy to see me, lol) And it’s time to especially say-Howdy, Dallas!!
Thanksgiving is just a day away! Hope you are all excited. By the way do y’all know about the amazing tradition that kicks off the Thanksgiving for Dallas? Yes, that’s correct! It’s the Dallas Turkey Trot!
Dallas YMCA Turkey Trot, 2024

The Dallas YMCA welcomes you to YMCA Dallas Turkey Trot, sponsored by Texas Health. YMCA Dallas Turkey Trot is an annually organized foot-race (includes Wheel Chair races) that happens in the morning of the Thanksgiving Day. The course for the full race is 8.2 miles long, making its way through the beautiful city of Dallas, Texas.
YMCA Dallas Turkey Trot has been a Thanksgiving tradition for the people of Dallas for more than 55 years!! Yes, that’s more than half a century! And this year, it’s happening again, marking their 57th anniversary! This event is something very special in the hearts of every soul in Dallas. No wonder, thousands and thousands of people join this event and many volunteer for the same!
This year, YMCA has organized a 5k fun run/walk and an 8-mile race and along with numerous other fun activities. We are barely touching the surface of all that this event has in store for you! It has no age limit. Whether it’s your newborn baby, or if you consider yourself old enough to have witnessed the first Thanksgiving, there’s something for everyone!
Just A Race?

This isn’t just a race, it’s a place to connect, to celebrate, to enjoy family time playing different games or doing other activities. It’s a place to experience the joy of doing something together as a family and as a community for the community. This event is one of those awesome things that brings Dallas together!
If you wanna join in with your whole family (yup, there’s something for babies too, more on that later), you can opt for the 5K untimed run/walk. Your fur babies aren’t left out. They can be a part of all the fun and even get to race! (Spoiler alert! They’ll even get a medal! Keep reading, I’ll share more.)
And if you are an athlete, this is your chance to shine and get that first place that belongs to you!
We can’t even fully fathom all the positive impact it has ad on the family members of different generations, by bringing them closer. Dallas Turkey Trot, is Dallas’ beloved tradition that they look forward to every year.
History
The original Turkey Trot in Dallas began in the 1940s, and it was run at Fair Park.
In 1967, 107 runners covered a 3-mile course. But the first 8-mile run took place in 1968. And this tradition hasn’t stopped since.

In fact, this race became real popular in no time. Due to increasing popularity and the increase in the number of people willing to participate, the Trot was moved to Dallas Downtown near the Dallas City Hall in 1979.
Today, the numbers have grown even more significantly, with the event attracting over 20,000 participants and thousands of spectators. And a huge number of participants are expected on 28th. (This year’s turkey trot has about 1000 volunteers already.)
