Along with the Half Marathon happening at Typhoon Texas Waterpark in Katy, a 5k run will be happening along with the half marathon too!
The Katy 5k run will be more of family-friendly run with just 3.1 miles to cover over a flat, fast course.
Read on to know all about the Katy 5k. Being conducted on the same day by the same running organization, there are more similarities in events when compared to the half marathon, but events special to 5k are clearly mentioned.

Katy 5k Run 2025 – In Brief
Katy 5k run 2025 will be happening this weekend on Saturday, February 8, 2025 at Typhoon Texas Waterpark, Katy, Texas 77494 starting at 7:45 a.m.
The race will include other distance races like a Katy Half Marathon (13.1 mi) along with a 1k for kids on the same day.

Katy 5k run 2025 – The 3.1 Mile Run
The 11th annual Katy 5k Run will be happening on Saturday, February 8, 2025 at the Typhoon Texas Waterpark, 555 Katy Fort Bend Rd., Katy, Houston, Texas 77494.
The Katy 5k run presented by Houston Methodist, is part of the Bayou half marathon series which is in turn a part of the Run Houston Race Series. The Run Houston Race Series is a select group of nine popular running events around Houston. Phew, that was a mouthful!
Run Houston Race Series
The Run Houston Race Series encourages runners to be a more fit version of themselves by challenging them to complete the races in its series. And completing a certain number of races overall or a certain number of races during certain group of months earns you an extra gear and a medal at the end of the race. Know more at txruns.
Runnin’ For A Cause
The Katy half marathon is partnering with Suarez Cares Inc.
Suarez Cares Inc. is a faith centered initiative by Dr.Laura suarez and her husband Tim suarez to provide pediatric therapy free of charge to as many children as possible at Laura suarez’s clinic – Local Pediatric Physical Therapy.
The free pediatric therapies will include physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, nutritional care, hippotherapy, aquatic therapy, counseling services, and spiritual health, etc.

The Course Map
The 3.1 mile course of the Katy 5k run is one of the most flat and fast courses you’ll ever find!
This makes it way easy to run for both experienced runner and first timers, considering there are runs out there with a whole lot of uphills to run.
If you are an experienced runner eyeing for the first place or participating in the run for the first and choosing to walk more than run, this course is perfect for you. Although, do note y’all, the time limit to complete the 5k run is 1 hour and 30 minutes.
Course route is entirely a paved road.

Register
February 5, 2025 is the last day to register for the Katy 5k Run online.

All participants are required to sign an online waiver.

Other Races Happening Along With Katy 5k Run
Katy Half Marathon and 1k (both timed and untimed) for kids (12 and under) will be happening along with the Katy 5k run.

And the 1k for kids (12 and under) ,simply require you to sign up for the 1k and choose whether y’all want it to be a timed race or an untimed race. The kids will have to run around a designated place at the Typhoon Texas Waterpark. Their race will start at 9:45 a.m.
Age group awards for 1k kids race will be given to the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place boys and girls in the following age groups based on race day age: 6 & Under, 7 to 9, 10 to 12

Packet Pick-Up For The Katy 5k Run 2025
You can collect your packet for the Katy 5k run in person on Thursday, February 6, 2025 or Friday, February 7, 2025 from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Fleet Feet Sports, 23501 Cinco Ranch Blvd., Suite J120 Katy, TX 77494.
Your packet includes your bib and some extra race info.
If you want someone else to pick your packet for you, make sure to give them you signed waiver that they fill during the registration.
Race day packet pick-up is available but not recommended.
If y’all have registered before, you would have had the option to get your packet mailed to you for an additional cost. It’ll typically arrive within the week the 5k is held. If it hasn’t arrived yet then I suggest y’all visit Fleet Feet Sports with your registration proof and your gear and bib will be handed to you.
Katy 5k 2025 – The Race Day
Hope y’all are super excited for the 5k Run! I’m sure y’all are super prepared and ready to achieve a new personal record. Before you go and start runnin’ your 5k, there are few things y’all should know.
Registration on the Race Day
Last minute registration is available at the counter on the race day at the start/finish lines at the Typhoon Texas Waterpark, Katy. Ask the volunteers if y’all need help findin’ the counter where y’all can register.
The last minute registration starts at 6:15 a.m.
Packet Pick-up on the Race Day
Race day packet pick up is available on the race day itself at Typhoon Texas Waterpark, Katy. Although it is not recommended to wait until race day to get your 5k run packet, but if you got no choice then this is your chance to get your packet.
The race day packet pick up starts at 6:15 a.m.

There will be no GEAR CHECK on the event site.
Katy 5k 2025– The Run
Now that you are prepared, and are at the start line, it’s time for you to be ahead of everyone else by knowing what lies ahead and plan your run accordingly. Read on to know just that!
Start Time
The Katy Houston 5k run starts at 7:45 a.m.
Don’t worry if you are at the back of the herd at the start line. This run will be a chip-timed run. You will have the timing chip integrated with their bib number.
Your timer will only start once you cross the start line. It will stop once you cross the finish line. It’s all automatic, so y’all don’t have to worry about people ahead of you in the race stealing the cake of you beating your personal best!
(The total time you take and your position in the race will be made available on the website.)
Portable Toilets
Portable toilets are set up in the course route and also at the start/finish line for easy access. But to not lose time, it’s better to not to drink in a lot of water before the race. The 5k run has one spot where portable toilets set up on the course after a certain distance after mile 2.
Water Stations
There’s one water station set up in the 5k route after a certain distance after mile 2. You can spot them on the course map as a blue droplet with “W” written on it.
Pacers
There’ll be no pacers for the katy 5k run. Make sure to complete the 5k in time, y’all. The time limit is 1 hour and 30 minutes.
Monitors heart rate and uses GPS to track how far, how fast and where you’ve run.
Includes tools like race time predictions and finish time estimates. Rechargeable. Up to 2 weeks of Battery Life.

The Katy 5k run course, has the time limit of 1 hour and 30 minutes. The entire course closes at 10:45 a.m.

Post Race Events On The Race Day
Once you cross the finish line and get that well deserved medal, there’ll be a few more activities that’ll follow! It’s all gonna be fun not to mention all the food and other services which will be provided or sold by various volunteer groups.
Awards And Medals
The Katy 5k run awards ceremony will begin at 8:45 a.m.
All finishers will receive a finisher medal at the finish line.
A winner medal will be awarded to the top 3 participants, male and female, in each age group and overall for all timed divisions.
Katy 5k Run Age Categories Are :
14 & under, 15-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70+
Do note y’all, If y’all don’t pick up your medal at the finish line then it will be mailed to you for an additional fee of $5. Contact them here – info@allcommunityevents.com to request your winner medal.
Finisher Photos
The Katy 5k Run photographer will try their best to get photos of all the participants, to help them do their job efficiently, please see that your bib number is clearly visible at all times!
This will also help the race authorities to find your photos easily and help them share it with you on the official website after the event.

Katy 5k Run Results 2025
The much awaited results will be shared with y’all as soon as possible after the run on the official website.
If you are among the top 3 male and female, in each age group and overall for the timed division, a winner medal will be awarded to you at the award ceremony after the race.

Will you be attending the 5k to cheer on the runners, or your loved ones? Or perhaps you wanna go watch your favorite runner win, make sure to stand along the way that gives the perfect view of the race.

Location And Parking
The 5k run is held at Typhoon Texas Waterpark Houston, 555 Katy Fort Bend Rd., Katy, TX 77494.
Parking
Plenty of parking is available at the Typhoon Texas Waterpark Houston for the 5k, but if you wanna park somewhere close to the start/finish line, it’s better go early!
If at all the parking area is all filled up at the at the Typhoon Texas Waterpark Houston, y’all can choose to park at the parking space of the Newlands Church just beside the Waterpark or at the Katy Mills Mall (in Lots 5C & 5D)

Street Closures
There are no complete street closures for the Katy 5k run but a part of the road – a lane will be reserved for the runners.
Although other lane will be open for the vehicles but there might be a slow moving traffic. It’s better to avoid driving through the course, unless you really have to.
Event Closure Or Cancellation
The run will rake place rain, snow or shine. Although in case of lightning or other dangerous conditions, the race could be a bit delayed.
Things To Remember Before Your 5k
- Arrive early to avoid being late for the race.
- It might be cold out there in the morning so wear accordingly. It might even rain or snow, so check the weather.
- In case it rains, make sure to wear the right shoes to avoid slipping.
- Make sure your bib is fully visible.
- Eat a light breakfast (probably a banana)
- Make sure to keep yourself hydrated but see that you don’t overdo it.
- Individually Wrapped Raincoats. Pocket-Size.
- Clear Plastic for Rain and Water Protection.

Race/Marathon Terms One Should Know
Bib – A bib is the identification number given to a runner. It is printed on a sheet that runners wear on their chest during the race. It helps in identifying runners, recording their timing, and tracking them accurately.
Wave Start – A wave start is a method of starting the race in multiple groups (Corrals) or “waves” of a group of runners one after the other, rather than having everyone begin at the same time to avoid congestion.
Corrals – A Corral is an assigned area at the start line where runners are grouped before the race. It helps to organize the race better so it doesn’t become congested as many people will be running. (For instance, runners can be divided into corrals – A, B, C, or D…) Your corral is often mentioned on your bib. (Look for the capital letter on your bib. That letter is your corral.)
Chip Time – A tag (timing device) used to calculate your start and finish time. It is your personal timer and it keeps track of the time you cross the finish line. It starts automatically as soon as you cross the start line.
Gun Time – This is the official start time of the race.
Pace teams – A group of pacers, who help participants achieve a certain finish time by running at a certain, pre-planned pace throughout the race. This way, runners joining pace teams can run together and even motivate each other to beat their personal bests.
Pacers – The experienced runners in the pace team are called pacers. Following them will help you reach the finish line on an approx. pre-estimated time.
Pace – Pace in races is similar to that of speed but is measured in minutes per mile i.e how many minutes you take to cover one mile.
Legacy – Runners who have successfully run and finished a certain race or marathon a certain number of times in consecutive years become part of the legacy.
Gear Check – A place where you can check in your bags to store your important items safely while you run. You can get your bags back after the race.
Untimed Race – Untimed races are the races where you can complete the run but you won’t be timed. This way you can complete your run without any pressure.
Frequently Asked Questions About Katy 5k run 2025
Are dogs allowed to run with me?
No dogs are allowed on the course.
Are strollers allowed?
Strollers are allowed for walkers & joggers only, and you must start in the back of the starting corral and the parent/guardian must sign a waiver on behalf of their child(ren) in the stroller.
Will my run time be measured according to the gun time or the chip time?
Your run time will be measured according to the chip. Your time will only start when you cross the start line and stop when you cross the finish line.
Can I wear headphones while running?
It is allowed but it’s really discouraged. Please make sure you are able to hear the instructions and the surroundings even after you have your headphones on.
Will there be gear check for the Katy 5k?
No, there will be no gear check for the Katy 5k Run. I suggest to keep your belongings in your car and make sure the car is locked. Also, it’s better not to have any expensive thing with you at the race.
