Lunar New Year Celebration At Discovery Green, Houston
Did y’all know, the Lunar New Year is celebrated in over 20 countries by over 1.5 billion people around the world, making it one of the largest and most widely celebrated holidays worldwide!!

The world will be celebrating the Lunar New Year from 28th January onwards.
Houston, the majestic and diverse city that it is, will have its own Lunar New Year celebrations all across the city!
Below, I’ll share all about the Lunar New Year celebration happening at the beautiful Discovery Green park, located in the heart of Downtown Houston.

The Lunar New Year Celebration
To celebrate the Lunar New Year, Discovery Green park has organized cultural dance performances right in the heart of Downtown Houston, spreading the cheer and joy of the Lunar New Year.
Discovery Green has its own ice rink. But February 2, 2025 will be the last day when visitors get to skate, so don’t miss out on your last chance to skate on the rink. You’ll really enjoy skating in the midst of the beautiful city and park lights! (Tickets required for skating)
Schedule Of The Performances
There’ll be performances by Lee’s Golden Dragon, Han Narea, Dance of Asian America and more! A detailed break-down is given below:
4:00 p.m. to 5:30 pm: Han Narea’s traditional Korean Dance demonstrations and Dance of Asian America.
5:35 p.m. : Lee’s Golden Dragon Lion Dance.
6:10 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. : Aureila Sky.
These performances will be held on the Anheuser-Busch Stage, located in the Discovery Green Park.

Feel free to grab delicious snacks from the two restaurants- Lake House, The Groove- at the park or get something from the food trucks and enjoy the evening away!
Anheuser-Busch Stage
Anheuser-Busch Stage is one of its kind, equipped with audio and lighting systems it provides the audience with a real awesome experience enhancing the live performances.
The best part? It provides a majestic view of Downtown Houston’s Skyline, whose magnificence is clearly visible from where the audience sits.

The event will be held on February 2, 2025, from 4:00 p.m. to 7 p.m.
Tickets
There are no tickets required to attend the performance. It’s free!

Location And Parking
The Discovery Green park is located at 1500 McKinney St, Houston, TX 77010, United States.
Parking
You will find many metered parking lots around the park.
And if you are a citizen with a parking placard/ veteran plate, you can park in a regular metered space without having to pay.
If you are looking for parking garages, the closest garage – Avenida Central is located at 1002 Avenida de las Americas.
For the underground garage, you’ll find entry on Avenida de las Americas, across from the George R. Brown Convention Center.

Additionally, you can also opt for METRORail, connect to the Green or Purple Line and get off at the stop called Convention District. Learn more at ridemetro.org. If you live somewhere nearby, you can use the Houston’s B- Cycle program too.

Frequently Asked Questions
What’s the entry fee to the Discovery Green?
Entry to the park is free. But if some other events are being held, you might be need to get a ticket to join in for that event. There’s no fee for attending the Lunar New Year celebration, though.
Can I bring snacks with me?
Sure! Feel free to bring your fav snacks with y’all. Additionally, you’ll find beer and other delicious items to snack on at the Lake House at Discovery Green. But, you cannot bring alcoholic drinks with you.
Will chairs be provided?
Even though the park has seating areas around, but to watch the Lunar New Year performance y’all can bring your own chairs, or mats to sit on the grass if you prefer.
Just a tip: Go early and sit in front, the place isn’t very elevated so you won’t be able to see properly if you are at the back.
Does The Park Have Any Place To Grab Something To Eat?
Yes, the park has two restaurants – The Groove and The Lake House. Y’all can get something from the food trucks around, too.
