Do y’all know, as on IDBM, the appearances of two antagonists, Snow Miser and Heat Miser, in the stop-motion animated Christmas movie,”The Year Without a Santa Claus,” were based on those of their voice actors, Dick Shawn and George S. Irving?

Oh, how I missed writing about Houston. Houston and the small towns around are one of the BEST places I love to write about!

Though the Christmas of 2024 has gone, the Christmas spirit is still alive! (Mine will stay alive until the Christmas of 2025 :P)

And to serve to those joyful Christmas and holiday spirit still blazing in our hearts, Discovery Green has organized something for the beloved Houstonians and for its visitors!

In the heart of down-town Houston, right in the embrace of the artistic park lights and the beautiful Houston skyline, and under the blanket of the starry Houston night, Discovery Green has yet again organized a Movie night or rather called as “Screen on the Green!”

Discovery Green, a magical place, covering 12-acres of the downtown Houston, right near the convention center, is one of the Houston’s most beloved park.

Before you mistake it as just any normal park, let me share with y’all that it got its own lake and ice rink!

This eco-friendly park showcases one of the most artistic attractions you can find in Houston, and you’ll always find one or the other fun and entertaining event going on here. Whether you are 5 or 500-year-old, enjoying your own company or with your loved ones, you’ll surely find something to enjoy here!

Screen On The Green – The Year Without A Santa Claus

On December 27, 2024, Bank of America will be sponsoring the streaming of the movie – The Year Without Santa A Claus, at the Screen on Green initiative, making it free for all those who wanna join in and enjoy the movie.

It’s one of the initiatives where Discovery Green, tries to bring the community together and closer!

The Year Without A Santa Claus – The Plot

The Year Without a Santa Claus is a stop-motion animated released in the year 1974.

This Christmas special film tells the story of how Santa Claus once being unwell, and feeling unwanted, decides not to embark on his annual Christmas journey giving gifts to the Children. The story beautiful unveils you through Mrs, Claus’ narration, how Mrs. Claus and two elves – Jingle and Jangle (love the names lol) had to convince the miser brothers to make it snow on South town to revive the Christmas spirit, to release Santa’s youngest reindeer, Vixen, and to let Santa know that he’s still loved and wanted which in turn makes him want to embark on his special Christmas journey yet again.

There are no tickets for the movie night. It’s free! But you’ll have to register free of charge on the Discovery Green website.

Timings

The movie night at Discovery Green is held on Thursday, Dec. 27, 7:00 pm to 8:00 pm.

Just a Tip : Check the weather for the day the movie night’s being held to be on the safer side. You don’t want the showers to wash your desire to enjoy the movie night in the outdoors away!


Location And Parking

The Discovery Green park is located at 1500 McKinney St, Houston, TX 77010, United States.

Parking

Metered parking lots are available on the streets around the Park.

A citizen with a parking placard/ veteran plate can park in a regular metered space without paying.

Parking garages are available. The closest garage, Avenida Central is located at 1002 Avenida de las Americas. For underground garage entry on Avenida de las Americas, across from the George R. Brown Convention Center.

If you rather want to use the METRORail, connect to the Green or Purple Line and get off at the stop called Convention District. Learn more about the rail at ridemetro.org. If you live somewhere nearby, you can use the Houston’s B- Cycle program too.

Sure! But please,no alcoholic drinks. Also, you’ll find beer and other delicious items to snack on at the Lake House at Discovery Green.

The park already has benches and other places to sit. But, for the movies, you would want to get your cozy blankets and mats or the chairs, so y’all can enjoy the movie being all comfortable and cozy.
